What are slides? How do they work?

You will often hear the term “slide” in association with fifth wheels. The term refers to the sliding wall. Most fifth wheels have at least one sliding wall (some large US models have 3 or more) that extends at the press of a button. The sliding walls substantially increases the interior living space. Slides can be either extended by an electric motor or hydraulic ram.
